Types of UPVC Door Handles
It is crucial to select the right replacement Upvc handle for your home when your upvc handles need replacing. Locksmiths can provide and fit high-security uPVC handles with added security features.
The most important measurements to take are the measurement A (also known as PZ) and the length of the backplate. Make sure to check these measurements to ensure your new uPVC handle will fit.
Lever/Lever
A lever is a solid bar that pivots around a central point (known as a Fulcrum). When you apply a force at the end of the lever, it will tend to rotate the fulcrum to the direction of the force applied. This rotation multiplies your force and lets you lift or move objects that would otherwise require more force to lift.
The distance between the fulcrum of the lever and the point at which you apply force determines the maximum movement. This is referred to as the mechanical advantage. The more the lever extends more, the greater the advantage in terms of mechanical. You can calculate the advantage of mechanical by dividing distance from fulcrum point to the point at which you are applying force by the distance between fulcrum point and the end of the lever.
Levers can also have different effects depending on how the forces are applied. A lever of class 2 for instance, has a tendency of rotating in the opposite direction once the effort force is applied. The forces created by pushing the handle of a front door will result in rotational effects similar to these.
However, levers don't create energy. They multiply the force by changing small amounts of effort applied over a long distance into larger amounts of force applied over smaller distances. Levers are used to lift heavy objects and transport huge quantities of cargo. This is also the principle behind levers found in many everyday tools such as crowbars and fishing rods, claws for hammers, and even your legs when you sit on the hand brake of your car.
Lever/Pad
Lever pad handles are a form of door handle made of upvc that have levers on both sides to operate the multipoint lock. They are available in a variety of variations and finishes, and can be used with a variety of materials like UPVC, Aluminium & Timber doors. They are sold as a pair for the outer and inner door with spindles & screws included. They are available both unhanded and handed versions to meet the needs of different users.
They can be used to replace the existing doors made of upvc. They are usually operated by lifting up the levers to throw out all of the multipoint locks before turning the key to close and unlock. They provide additional security compared to lever handles for doors since the locking mechanism is only accessible from the inside with keys unless the door is locked.
They are not as safe as a cylinder lock, but they're an affordable way to add extra security to your home. The only drawback is that they do not offer the same level of protection like a cylinder lock and so don't prevent external access to the home when the door is left open.
The majority of lever pad door handles made of upvc that we have in stock are manufactured by the industry's leading manufacturers and therefore are made from high quality components. They are also generally supplied with a manufacturer's guarantee.
These are usually designed to work with the 92mm lock, or a replacement model called the Paddock Lock. They will feature a cylinder with 82mm diameter on the inside and 62mm on the outside. They are also fitted with two spindle followers. Some come with the backplate inserted, while others can be removed to accommodate different fixing centers.
Lever/Snib
Lever latches are the simplest kind of door handles. The lever is pushed down to open a latch inside the door. It can be locked with keys. The levers for privacy are based on this same principle but with the addition of a Snib (like knobs for doors).
repairmywindowsanddoors can be very useful tool, particularly in homes where security and privacy are crucial. If your partner is arriving home late from work, you can use the snib button to ensure that they aren't allowed in until they're ready to move in. This type of handle can also be put in on doors inside, such as those in bedrooms where you wish to restrict access from outside.
In certain situations the snib button can cause problems, particularly in the case of older locks and doors that are bent. If the snib button was accidentally pressed or by someone who is not familiar with it, the door may shut and lock you out. You can usually get in by knocking the door frame or the letterbox. But, this is not ideal.

If your uPVC has a snib, we recommend replacing it with a smart lock from the E-LOK 7 Series. These locks can be retrofitted on double turn pull handle kits and come with cover plates to hide existing holes, to make it a seamless installation. The E-LOK application can be used to unlock doors using RFID cards or a mechanical key. Passcodes are also available for security and convenience. The system is tested to 200k cycles to ensure durability. The handles are made from solid metal and meet BS EN 1670 Grade 5 for resistance to corrosion.
Lever/Moveable Pad
This is a well-known handle design for front doors that has the advantage of preventing the door from being opened from the outside without a key if the lock is not deadlocked. This is achieved by a 'pad' shaped external handle that locks into the gap between the handles and lock case to prevent the latch from being pulled back or the door opened.
This handle is designed to work with uPVC multipoint locks that use split spindle mechanisms. This type of operation requires the lever handle and the external pad handle to be installed to the same lock case. This could be a straightforward replacement of the current uPVC handle, however it could also require a new lock case or a new set of handles to handle furniture.
These aluminium lever/movable pad door handles are ideal for uPVC doors and come with an easy to maintain slide bearing fixing lugs, spring cassettes, and fixing lugs included. They have a euro profile cut out and are fitted to a wide range of uPVC and timber doors.
The lever moveable pad is available in a variety of styles to match a wide variety of multipoint locks. They are designed for use with split spindle locks that have an 92mm centre cylinder and require a separate set of split spindles provided by the manufacturer of the lock.

It is made up of two handles that can be moved and locked using a thumbturn cylinder or the use of a key. Pad handles are an alternative to a lever/lever handle. It is made up of either a movable or fixed pad that can be used to control the lock. These Fullex handles are sprung lever pads with snibs that can be turned on to stop the latch from closing.
